Fun things in my land
I’m an absolute nightmare when it comes to things like procrastination. Really, I am. I’m awful.
Current procrastinatings:
Blood Bound: I’m not procrastinating it so much as I am suddenly finding other things to do. I honestly do want to get it down and done and dusted by March, or for preference by mid-Feb – after then, I’ll be getting an influx of assignments, and possibly things relating to the upcoming Big Bang. Oh, and my Firearms Safety Course (I’m really, really, really looking forward to that).
Also: Police Powers II. Apparently, I have an assignment for that, regarding Part I of the Police Services Act. It’s a bit of a surprise, but I’m sure I’ll get through it. Somehow. I usually do. It seems to be due in via email on the 29th. I’ll do it. Soon. Honest. No, really. I’m good, okay? I’ll post that up after I get my marks back.
My poor, much-neglected webcomics. Vampire Inn will, thankfully, be a short-lived, self-contained series, and I’ll do that ahead of time, with a preprogrammed update schedule. But outside of that, guess who has to code the damned website? Catherine is a highly accomplished Webdeveloper in her own right, but the system I’m using has some rather specialised codes specifically for the comics. Also, I’ve already got a person willing to do a link-exchange for VI (warning, this link is NSFW! If you click it, you’d better be old enough, and I hold no responsibility for you, you got that? Okay, good.), so that site just became a major issue.
Transcribing the appropriate notes for posts regarding class notes, etc. Some of them, as they’re actually taken from textbooks, need to be rephrased so that I’m not breaking copyright laws and stuff. Others of them, I just need to get them to make sense to the rest of the world.
Okay, so, I bought the damn skipping rope, now I’ve got to use the thing. And so I need to put together that playlist – but iTunes is still not bloody WORKING! TT_TT
Seems as though I need to get me a disc of Vista. Thing is, my computer’s running into a problem doing any updates, and the code may apparently only be solved by inserting a Vista disc and hitting ‘upgrade’ (this fix seems to apply even if you’re running Ultimate). Thing is though, this laptop came with Vista preinstalled, just plugin and go. Which is also known as ‘Not. Freaking. Cool.’ when the computer’s demanding a disc at you.
Yes, I’ve tried a system restore, which not only didn’t work, but also resulted in new problems with my Fox, which brings us to…
Get my Fox to run properly. It’s really, really, really annoying having to keep the windows task manager up and running in the background, just so every time it freezes I can hit ‘end process’. Yes, this is the only way I’ve found that solves the problem. Yes, it’s kinda starting to get to me.
Buy Wimbledon, Hard Core Logo, Doctor Horrible, possibly Twitch City, and see if I can get my hands on H2O/The Trojan Horse.
Continue my Lawbreakers of Slings & Arrows series.
Go rockclimbing and have a total Star Wars day with my buddy-from-home (I have all the films and a big screen. Be afraid). Funny story: I took karate with her best friend in New Zealand. It’s great to know how closely we’re all connected, you know?
Watch all of my new Canadian films (I have Slap Shot 2. Just because it was on sale for $6 doesn’t make me officially pathetic. CALLUM!). Also, pre-order Passchendaele.
Work out how to get my userpics working on here. I like my images, dammit. I may just eventually decide to start off each post with the appropriate image, but there we are…
Organise my stuff. I have to put together a bunch of things for my career preparation class. Fear my filing cabinets.
All of these, and I really, really, really do need to do a couple of comic reviews (okay, I’ll start now. Everybody! Read this comic! NOW!) and set up a link to not one but two podcasts down on the sidebar: Comic Dish and Gutter Talk.

Just as, so too
Just as with writing, there are some days in a beta’s life when you honestly can’t work up the enthusiasm for the project that you typically have, or you simply get distracted, or you just don’t have enough time.
For days like that, you have to make time, or face being required to take even longer the next time you pick up the page.
As an example?
Today is my sister’s birthday. I had work from 7-10, I had class from 1-6, and we’re going out for dinner. So I’ve been up since 6, was out the door at about 6:45, and got home again around 10:30. When I did get home, one of the first things I did was go over stuff like emails, etc.
That was my first mistake. Emails, twitter, LJ… The Internet has brought the world some of its greatest time-wasters. On the plus side, however, I didn’t turn on Solitaire (mainly because I have a copy of TaiPei on my computer, and that’s just about ruined me for all other single-player old Windows computer games).
So, that was another hour down the drain. Then I took a shower, and went squee for a bit over Obama. After that, it was off to class, and yes, I managed to stay awake, though I did fall asleep in the break (only about a 10 minute nap, but I definitely needed it. Running on five-six hours of sleep and only one small coffee is not terribly much fun on the best of days).
Class was, as ever, freaking awesome. It is a rare class in which I am ever bored in my program. But, of course, it’s not the most conducive of places to be editing anything with Vampires in it.
Um.
Okay, actually, it is, but we kinda tend to read/watch other peoples’ screens (today, the main feature was my buddy’s MacBook, showing more of the Inauguration parade and stuff. Awesome).
So, I got home. And after dealing with the registration for a Firearms Safety course (one of the last five to sign up, boy am I ever lucky that we dealt with this before going out for dinner!), I just feel like conking out and taking a proper nap.
Which is why I’m currently dressed, but lying on my bed and blogging with my eyes mostly closed. In a few minutes I’ll have to get up and change my shirt, because we’re going out for dinner.
So, time got away from me, today.
The good thing is, however, that I have neither work nor school tomorrow. I have two assignments (possibly three, if they can get the system running) to complete, but after that, I’m free to do the editing that I should have done earlier. And the ficcing, of course. The most canonical fics in the world shall be that which I write in the BB universe.
Although, tomorrow’s list does also include ‘make playlist to work out to’ and ‘buy skipping rope, grip trainer’. Oh, wherever shall I find the time! -playful!woe
Why didn’t anybody tell me?
Also, I need to mess about with the functionings of my Google News Alerts.
Congratulations go out to SAS Trooper Mark Donaldson, VC, of Australia.
For most conspicuous gallantry, or some daring or pre-eminent act of valour or self-sacrifice, or extreme devotion to duty in the presence of the enemy or belligerents.
Be careful what you write…
Now, I’m one of those people with a twitter account. I often use it these days to follow on with the one of the Multiverse RPGs going on (it’s really rather fun! I’ve spent a few nights arguing with Tony Stark about his drinking habits, for example, and being backed up by Jarvis and Pepper Potts – always a good sign. Right now, I’m discussing the possibility of Dr. Crane – otherwise known as The Scarecrow – leaving the Arkham Asylum).
Well, it’s amazing the sorts of people who are on Twitter, right? People like, say, TV-workers.
The other day, I was watching The Wizards of Waverly Place, and commented that it’s a fun show, but that I wished it had slightly better execution. This is a program that I was delighted to see being advertised. Finally, I thought, a show with bite! (Or, you know, wands. Yes, I’m a sucker for fantasy.) I was seeing something similar to Degrassi (the original, actually) in my head, but with magic. Something with that sort of staying power.
Honestly? Once I’d seen it, I was a little disappointed.
It’s the same basic plots as just about every other live-action, Disney Original Program of late – you could change some names and take out the magic (or turn it into a Vision – That’s So Raven – or change it into being over-acted sneaky – Suite Life, Hannah Montana – or make it a Futuristic Gadget – Phil of the Future), and it’s another program.
Yes, it’s a kid’s show – that doesn’t mean that it should be a rehash of the same ideas.
Also, sometimes, I’d like to see a little bit of character development between episodes.
I’m going to take a short moment and compare this series to Sabrina: The Teenage Witch.
Okay, this isn’t terribly fair, but hear me out.
Read on…
